Eight Ways to a Happier Life
Use these eight easy to apply strategies to boost your happiness set point. The more you recognize what behaviors and thoughts pull you down, and choose to let them go, the more you will see a boost in your energy, spirit, outlook and outcomes.
- Let go of the need to be perfect.
Perfection is an illusion—it doesn’t exist. Stop stressing yourself out trying to be perfect and instead aim for “good enough.” Learn to embrace your mistakes as opportunities for growth.
- Let go of self-criticism.
Pay attention to your inner talk. Don’t call yourself names. Stop telling yourself things you would never tell a good friend.
- Let go of blaming.
Each time you blame someone else, you are making yourself a victim. Instead, take responsibility for the way you feel, act, and think. Take charge of your actions, and know your future is the result of your current choices.
- Let go of judging.
Everyone is on their own journey, and your job is to focus on your own. When you are judgmental with people, you are reacting to something that bothers you about yourself.
- Let go of making assumptions about what other people feel, want, or think.
There’s no way to know what anyone else is feeling and thinking Stop making up imaginary scenarios.
- Let go of competing with others.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Choose to connect with people from a place of love instead of fear, and believe in abundance. Choose to believe that we live in a supportive Universe, where there is enough of everything and for everyone.
- Let go of worrying about the future.
Accept that there are things in life that you cannot control, no matter how hard you might try. Each time you find yourself worrying, remember: “Time will tell.”
- Let go of pleasing others.
Worrying about what others think is a waste of time. Other people’s opinions are all about them, filtered through their lenses; it has zero to do with you.
