Words have a powerful impact on the outcome you desire. The words you choose to use become a self-fulfilling prophesy. If they are disempowering, chances are more likely that you will start something with less commitment and enthusiasm. And when you get into a jam, you’re more likely to give up. On the other hand, if the words you pick are empowering, you have created a mind-set that puts you in charge. You become creative and persistent.
Here are some examples to consider.
I’ll try./I’ll do it.
I can’t help it. /I’ll learn to change my behavior.
I should do that./I choose to do that.
I don’t have time to…. /I’ll schedule my time to…
I can’t. /I can find a solution.
You make me miserable. /I am in charge of my moods.
Can you see, hear and feel the difference between these two choices? Try saying aloud the disempowering statements. Now replace them with the empowering phrases. Can you feel yourself moving from a downward spiral to an upward one?
Words that empower and inspire lead to positive thoughts, which produce positive feelings and behaviors, all of which set the stage for successful results. Paying attention to your words is a relatively easy step that leads to a powerful payoff.
Why not try an experiment. Pay attention to your thoughts and words and make a commitment to replace any disempowering words with empowering ones. Can you feel an upward shift in your energy, commitment and persistence?
